A lion dance performance represents good luck and good fortune. That is the reason why lion dances are so popular and requested for weddings, the opening of conventions, birthdays, Chinese New Year, and any special event that wishes for a performance.

In the video, you will see people handing the lions a piece of lettuce and a red envelope as a form of luck and good fortune. In Chinese, this is called the Choi Ching. Choi Ching translates to plucking green vegetables in particular lettuce or cabbage which is known as Choi. Lettuce or cabbage are used because the word in Chinese sounds similar to the Chinese word for fortune. In the red envelope, the bride and groom would include a small gratuity and offer it to the lions.
